Wikis Vs Blogs

Both Blogs and Wikis are forms of New Media that both have similarities and differences. To me the main difference between blogs and Wikis are that Blogs usually are more Personal and opinion based with one author while Wikis are used more to spread education and can have multiple different authors. Another key difference between the two forms of social media are the way their pages receive feedback. In a blog its normal to receive comments, while in a Wiki people usually just edit the page and fill in their input.

In the article “An Internal Wiki That’s Not Classified” by Noam Cohen. I found it very interesting how the US Government decided to run a wiki focusing on foreign affairs. When I first read this I thought it would just be chaotic since anybody can edit a wiki. But as I continued reading I learnt that you would need a user name and password to edit the wiki. This made me think of an idea for a special Wiki to be made for politicians for the use of creating and amending laws. I also found the article in the New York Times about Walmart using corporate blogs which show the Walmart what their customers prefer/want. I find it very interesting how Wikis/Blogs are slowly creeping up and taking over. I’m excited to see their social media effects in the future.
